Phase two Start of the cruise

Phase Two Disney Cruise

Saturday 16th April

We were up early for our luggage was being collected so as to be transferred to the ship, as we were ready when the bus boy came to collect our luggage we blagged a lift with him. We arrived at reception and was happy to see a member of Disney cruise staff present. We approached her and was so pleased to hear her say to us “you’re good to go.” We had time for breakfast then the coach came to transfer us to Port Canaveral. We arrived at the docks and saw the ship it looked absolutely massive. We debussed and had to take a Covid test which was fortunately negative so we we allowed to board. As we reached to top of the gang plank our name was called out and we were greeted with applause from Mickey, Minnie  and some of the crew. Our first job was to locate our muster station and log our visit in on the app. We then had lunch then we were allowed to go to our cabin. We located it and when we entered we discovered lovely gifts from our family. Our luggage arrived and we spent some time unpacking it we also took advantage of the dhobi facility being offered so sorted out the relevant clothing.

All the cruises we’ve been on have had similar dress codes this one didn’t seem to have one but not wishing to be caught out so I went and checked. It would appear cruise casual means exactly that and the shorts and tee shirts are acceptable so we didn’t bother changing. We made our way to the upper decks to see what was on offer and the tube caught Bill’s eye but Val didn’t seem so keen. We arrived at the restaurant and had a lovely meal then went to see a show. After the show we wandered about a bit, had a couple of photos taken then decided to turn in for it had been a long day.

Sunday 17th April (Easter Sunday)

With all the pressures and anxiety behind us we both slept well and had a lazy start to the day. We set off and found a restaurant for breakfast. After we’d eaten we wandered around, had a couple of pictures with the characters we then found a lounge where they were playing Bingo so we decided we’d have a go. Val went and purchased the tickets when we looked at them they bore no resemblance to the ones we have at home. Fortunately there was a Brit amongst the entertainment staff who explained the difference between American and British bingo. There was one similarity that being we didn’t win here either. We then wandered around the shops picking up a few bits them we took a walk outside on the promenade deck, despite being in the middle of an ocean and a breeze it was actually quite comfortable. We had an appointment with the portrait photographer so we returned to the cabin to change and discovered a plate of chocolate coated strawberries left in our room compliments of the Hotel Director. We changed into our formal gear and went for photo shoot. When he finished we went to the formal dinner. Unlike other cruises we’ve been on Disney doesn’t operate a three line whip on dress code  so whilst many were wearing collar and ties some were still casual. I was the only one in a DJ but I didn’t feel uncomfortable, in fact many came up to us and commented on our appearance. After our meal we we went f’wd to the theatre and watched Aladdin the musical. After it finished we returned to our cabin and turned in.

Monday 18th

Another day at sea so after breakfast we went and relaxed on the promenade deck, there was a slight breeze but still warm and comfortable. We stayed there until lunchtime when we went up to the 11th deck where the pools are located. The water tube was still out of action. After lunch we chilled on sun loungers and watched a film. When it was over we returned to our cabin and prepared for dinner. We noticed the company had left us yet another gift in the form of cheese and biscuits. We then went down for dinner. We are getting used to the Disney way of dinner accommodation. you keep your table number and you maintain the same wait staff but you eat in a different restaurant each night which is good. After we’d eaten we went to the portrait photographer office and selected a batch of portrait photos, they are beautiful and being monochrome have a certain magic about them. I then managed to upload the photos that have been taken of us whilst we wandered about the ship. We then returned to the cabin and discovered the the towel animator had gone to town with swans and lilies scattered with rose petals on the bed. It was a shame to move them. We then turned in for tomorrow we have our first “run ashore”

  1. Sounds as though you are being treated well on the ship.
Happy for you both that things have worked out so nicely.
